The National Symphony Orchestra at the Palacio de Bellas Artes presents the work of Luis Mario Ruelas as part of the Fronteras season, a sound journey that challenges boundaries.
Mexico City, September 2025 — The National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico (OSN) continues its second season of “Fronteras” at Palacio de Bellas Artes, an artistic project designed by conductor Ludwig Carrasco that explores geographical, ideological, political, and personal boundaries through music. Conceived as a “sound journey,” the 2025 season invites audiences to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that emerge from those limits, using music as a space for research and dialogue.
Within this framework, the OSN premiered “Fantasía-Tumbao: salsa y bolero for chamber orchestra”, composed by Luis Mario Ruelas, professor and active member of the Elisia Education Hub academic community. The concert, held on September 19 and 21 under Carrasco’s baton at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, marked a historic milestone: Ruelas is the first composer from León, Guanajuato, and only the third from his state to present a work with the OSN at Mexico’s most prestigious musical venue.
The piece, which fuses salsa, bolero, and concert music, captivated audiences at the Palacio de Bellas Artes with its ability to bridge popular traditions and academic traditions in an innovative proposal. “Fantasía-Tumbao” reflects Ruelas’s vision as a composer and researcher, dedicated to exploring the richness of Latin American traditions and their dialogue with contemporary music.
At Elisia Education Hub, we celebrate this achievement as a reflection of our ecosystem, where academic innovation transcends the classroom and connects with global culture. “Professor Ruelas’s premiere at Bellas Artes reaffirms our commitment to fostering talent and projecting our community onto the world’s most important stages,” highlighted Alexandra Strong, Chancellor of Elisia Education Hub.
This world premiere not only enriches Mexico’s symphonic repertoire but also reinforces Elisia as a space that promotes academic excellence, research, and cultural practice — inspiring new generations to transform the future through art and education.
